I don't collect any information on you other than your Discord/Capstar identity when you sign in, IP with time of download, and general analytics like how many streams have been made. Privacy is super duper important when it comes to these programs.

Since I'm not a known publisher, Google and Windows (rightly so) don't trust it. Any software can have malware pretty much. You should run the .exe through websites that check for viruses if you feel like it, but the most important thing you need to know is that this app streams your desktop and lets others control it, so it gets flagged by Windows Defender for being unsafe (also rightly so).

My code runs pretty deep on Windows itself in order to not be stuttery and improve latency just like TeamViewer. I've taken measures to make sure that when you close the UmbraLink app, it shuts down cleanly, and that the uninstall button uninstalls everything.

TLDR: Windows doesn't like the app since others can control your cursor technically, and it streams your desktop, but it's fine.

Encryption and security is what I've spent the most time on. It does feel sketchy controlling a PC from a website the first time.

I'm confident I've got your back on my end, but there are ways it can still go wrong: Please don't share the copied link in a public chat or anything like that. It's a one-time-use link, which expires, and you also need an account.

In the case a bad actor is viewing your stream, you still override him in cursor movements and such, so you can shut it down/kick him/disallow him from controlling or whatever without having to worry too much.
